This is a study of some walnuts I found beside a small country road in southwest France, while on a walk one October day. I felt so lucky to have the bounty of food available around me, whether from walnuts, chestnuts, fruits, or mushrooms to be found in the area. I picked up some small twigs that had fallen from the tree, to study the lichens and the leaves in varying stages of drying. The shadows show how the shapes of the leaves changed as they dried during the process of painting them.
The original painting was done in watercolor; this is a high quality giclee print made with archival inks on museum grade paper. It measures 11 inches wide by 14 inches high, and has a narrow white border approximately 1/8 inch wide to allow for a slight overlap when matting and framing.
